Write a two-minute summary
Note what happened, when and where it happened, who was involved, and what immediate medical attention occurred. Keep assumptions and disputed points separate from direct observations.
Put five records within reach
Have the incident report number, provider list, insurance correspondence, a few key dates, and your contact details available. You do not need a perfect file before asking whether the firm can speak with you.
Choose three priority questions
Ask whether the firm handles the matter and location, what information is needed next, and whether any timing issue should be investigated promptly. Add communication and fee questions if the conversation continues.
Record the outcome
Write down whom you spoke with, what was requested, whether another conversation was scheduled, and what you agreed to send. Ask the firm to clarify whether any attorney-client relationship exists.
