01

Identify what would be resolved

Ask which claims, parties, and events the proposed agreement covers. A release can affect legal rights, so read the complete document and obtain advice about its effect before signing.

02

Understand the financial accounting

Request a written breakdown of the gross amount, lawyer fee, case expenses, liens or reimbursement claims, other deductions, and estimated net amount. Ask which figures can still change.

03

Clarify timing and conditions

Ask what signatures, approvals, dismissals, payment steps, or lien resolutions must occur and whether the agreement contains confidentiality or other continuing obligations.

04

Compare the decision—not a promise

Discuss the known strengths, disputes, costs, delay, uncertainty, and available alternatives. No guide can decide whether a particular proposal should be accepted.
